Training

Training is essentially the passing of knowledge, information, and 'how to' from skilled individuals to those who wish to learn. It is a vital undertaking for growing economies, emerging nations, and companies worldwide.

However, effective training is a rather specialized skill. It's not simply standing in the front of a group and going over concepts. Truly effective training involves a hands-on approach, individual skill building, and sufficient time to learn new skills. It also takes accomplished trainers who are not only experts in their field but also experts in passing that knowledge along to the target audience.

Training is a key Kilimanjaro International offering. We provide outstanding training. We offer a wide array of training topics, and we custom-tailor programs to reflect our commitment to helping emerging nations and developing economies reach their full potential.

Our training perfectly complements our consulting interventions. KI can be your total solution.

  • TESSI Training Programs. TESSI stands for 'Training and Experience-Sharing Seminars In-house.' Training Overview

Kilimanjaro International offers an array of training courses and workshops that cover a wide range of professional, governmental, and social topics. These are customized, demand-driven, skill-building, experience-sharing workshops and seminars based on our high-impact sustainable value philosophy. This means we respond to your unique business and performance needs with training programs that lead to improved on-the-job behavior.

Our training programs cover core topics in general management and technical skill areas. They address the development needs of both managers and individual contributors. Most programs are two weeks in length to ensure the most efficient travel for trainers and participants, the effective presentation of material, and ample time for processing the training experience.

Kilimanjaro International has trained scores of government officials and select private sector employees. Seeking to build political leadership and technical competencies, we target functional specialists, supervisors, managers, directors, and executives. We have designed numerous training courses for diverse groups of participants and delivered them in local and international venues including Tanzania, the United States, Ghana, Burundi, Uganda, Malaysia, Singapore, Rwanda, Mauritius, South Korea, and Indonesia.

We also keep an eye on the future: our training programs put the same focus on successful long-term outcomes as our consulting engagements. They provide citizens and government officials the management, professional, and technical skills that make operations and architecture improvements possible.

Dissatisfied with attending general courses that provide materials and case studies not relevant to participant job-related problems, client-organizations and individuals have increasingly turned to us knowing we spend time before and during training delivery making sure our courseware materials and case studies are specifically aligned to each client's needs.

To this end, our programs hinge on customization; work-related cases, simulations, and role-plays; films; helpful manuals; and lively discussions/best practice techniques leading to individual performance gains. We're hands-on in training, because that's the way people learn.

Participants consistently report that our programs are exceptional in their focus on engagement, challenges, and solutions providing specific skills not only to take back to the job today, but to rely on for life.

Our training programs are demand-driven and oftentimes are created custom for a client. So if you don't see what you need, contact us. Fill out our request form, and we'll discuss your training needs.

Now let's look at how we deliver our training programs: Training and Experience-Sharing Seminars Abroad -- TESSA --and Training and Experience-Sharing Seminars In-house -- TESSI.

TESSA

TESSA (Training and Experience-Sharing Seminars Abroad) programs provide high-level executives and leaders with a unique experience. We combine training with an abroad locale and add in a diverse set of professional instructors ranging from local talent to international experts. We then invite attendees from all over the world, resulting in a unique dynamic with singular participant interaction.

TESSA sessions bring the concept of globalization to your organization as your leaders and top-level executives benefit from advanced training programs, meet peers from around the globe, and experience how other cultures' leaders/business professionals overcome their own issues.

There is a special benefit gained from traveling to other countries and meeting/learning from global peers. One sees how diverse approaches are being applied to solve common problems.

Here's something our president recently wrote that sums this up nicely:

"A lot has been said and written about globalization and its impact on, say, agricultural output for a peasant farmer in a remote village in Africa. But no matter how you describe it, the fact is that understanding globalization is critical if we hope to solve the plethora of development challenges facing our clients'both local and global. Differences in cultures impact how our clients recruit, train, develop, solve problems, implement changes, or make investment decisions. Perhaps more importantly, if we want to learn how to survive and thrive in this globalized economy of the 21st century, one of key ways to build confidence in responding to development challenges is to learn from what works in other countries and adapt these solutions to our own environment."
— Greyson Kiondo

Our TESSA training events attract high-level executives and leaders from organizations worldwide that value our unique experience-sharing benefits in a collaborative environment. Over the years, TESSA programs have been delivered in select cities in the United States, Tanzania, Ghana, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, and Indonesia.

Some Benefits of TESSA
  • Institutional benefits -- Attendees and hosts gain knowledge and understanding of problem solving and development practices from different countries. The exchange of individual ideas benefits both the host and visiting institutions and can develop into true working collaborations that last well beyond the event.

  • Professional development -- Interacting with like-minded business and government leaders in a foreign country provides a unique opportunity for gaining invaluable insight and allows attendees to see how their own domestic issues have been successfully addressed elsewhere.

  • Career enhancement -- It's now a global marketplace, no matter the industry or issue. Many institutions tend to look favorably upon candidates who have international experience to complement local knowledge. TESSA can provide not only that experience, but also introduce a wealth of international contacts and colleagues.

  • Personal benefits -- TESSA builds confidence, broadens experiences, enhances knowledge, challenges thinking, and is stimulating and enjoyable. These personal benefits to executives and leaders will last a lifetime.

TESSA is open to many countries/entities. Events typically begin with a request from a particular organization/ministry/governmental agency/company. The event is then positioned to attract participants from all over. However, some larger organizations find it more beneficial to close an abroad TESSA program and limit attendance to their own people. We can create both open and custom TESSA events.

Kilimanjaro International created the TESSA brand of services several years ago to complement our much older TESSI. Tested first in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in the U.S., TESSA is today one of KI's most-preferred products popularized by participant word-of-mouth enthusiasm. This success has lead to KI quadrupling TESSA offerings since its 2001 inception.

TESSI

TESSI (Training and Experience-Sharing Seminars In-House) programs are one of our oldest services and have become one of our most successful offerings. TESSI brings the best experts straight to you.

Kilimanjaro International recognized the need for training almost immediately after its founding. In fact, training was one of our first core services. And the most cost-effective and direct way to accomplish training is to bring it to the client. Which is exactly what TESSI does.

Falling under the general umbrella of a client-organization's human capital development, a TESSI training event can be initiated for a variety of reasons for an employee or group of employees:
  • To train about a specific topic(s), either on an individual, departmental, or organizational level. Topics might include managerial, communication, social marketing or IT skills for example.
  • When a performance appraisal indicates performance improvement is needed.

  • To benchmark the status of overall improvement in a performance enhancement effort.

  • As part of a professional development program for an individual or organization.

  • As part of succession planning to help an employee (or department) become eligible for a planned change in role in the organization.

  • To pilot/test the operational viability of a new performance management system

TESSI offerings are usually for technical, managerial and supervisory staff. We can accommodate many group sizes. If need be, we can hold multiple daily sessions. The main objective is to impart knowledge and skills to your staff.

Culled from a pool of international experts, we boast an impressive lineup of training talent that can impart the best ideas, skills, and knowledge from around the world to your organization.

Some Benefits of TESSI

Done right, the investment in staff training always produces a positive return on investment (ROI). Training not only enhances on the job skills and performance, but also delivers other outreaching effects like boosting morale (workers feel cared about and are more loyal when an investment is made in them), increasing camaraderie between colleagues, and offering an opportunity for participants to share challenges and solutions without a typical workday's interruptions.

Other benefits of TESSI include:
  • Cost-effectiveness. It is cost effective to train large groups of key employees in-country.

  • New skills learned and increased job performance.

  • Increased job satisfaction, motivation, and higher employee morale.

  • Increased efficiency in workflow, resulting in higher productivity.

  • Easier adoption of new technologies, processes, and ideas.

  • Increased innovation in strategies and product development.

  • Reduction in employee turnover.

  • Enhanced company image.

  • Risk management.

  • Appreciation of diversity, which takes on an increased importance in today's global marketplace.

TESSI programs are appropriate for organizations with large numbers of people to train in-house and are usually closed to the public/other organizations because they are sponsored by single clients. However, TESSI sessions can be opened to include anyone else you wish (a sister company? a partner organization? several government agencies/embassies, community organizations?)

We provide you with demand-driven customization, so whether we just work with you or create an in-house event that will be attended by several participating entities you can be guaranteed positive results.

We can conduct TESSI events for client organizations anywhere in the world, in addition to Sub-Saharan Africa. What we do with a TESSI program is work with you to shape the program so it best fits your needs, and we pick a location that ensures logistical ease for your situation.

A Quick Look

The best organizations are learning organizations, where the personal and professional development of staff is continuous. This maxim applies to both public and private institutions.

Sometimes clients are reluctant to commit resources to training programs outside the region. To overcome this understandable tentativeness, we keep our overhead low and work within client budgets. And we believe our TESSA programs add special value for participants because we ensure programs include interaction with local officials outside a client’s country. Thus, our participants are exposed to a range of international methods and ideas they can learn from and adapt for use back home.

When we first meet with clients, we are careful to assess their training needs to be sure the training is right and the most advantageous participants are selected. We are not interested in filling programs unless we know they will add client value.
